JANE SEABROOK is an illustrator and designer who authored this cartoon and  lives in Auckland , New Zealand . She shares her life with her husband, two teenage children, and a growing menagerie of assorted animals.
Good morning!
I appreciate all the prayers, the support and encouragement from you guys in the comments section of my blog, and all the many ways folks have reached out to my family and I during this journey.  Thank you!  🙂   I am feeling and doing super-terrific right now, woohoo!  By God’s help and grace, over the last six months  I’ve been working hard at losing the weight I put on during treatment (most of the excess weight has come off with a 100% raw vegan plan–still am trying to plug away on the remaining extra baggage inside and out).  I’ve been getting physically fit and healthy again and doing lots of walking, biking, and rebounding. Just like everybody else,  I’m still a work in progress with tons of room to grow in so many ways.  I see more clearly  than ever that I want to run to Jesus when I am stressed:  not to chocolate, sugar, or junk.  God has so much better for me than emotional eating.   I am weak but He is strong.
Surgery, chemo, radiation, and a year of every 21 days Herceptin are behind me and I am now on Tamoxifen (a hormone blocker) for 5 years.   All this being said, I see cancer as a sneaky, doesn’t- play -fair thief in the shadows.  Doctors don’t say “cured” in relation to anybody’s cancer anymore: they say “NED” (No evidence of disease).  So many with cancer are plagued with reoccurrences and I personally know some dealing with heavy-duty metastasis, which is pretty sobering stuff.  The nature of the beast of breast cancer is to travel and try and take over new territory in the brain, lungs, bones, liver, etc.  Nobody knows what causes cancer  or how to truly address it’s root cause.  There is a lot of uncertainty involved revolving around a cancer diagnosis and it’s treatment. Maybe reoccurrence will happen for me, maybe it won’t.  I’m rooting for the free-from-every-trace-of-cancer for the rest of my life route. 🙂  I’m trying to take good care of myself and  I  use Scripture and  “cancer fightin’ words” to replace stinkin’ thinkin’ as well as battle anxious thoughts when they pop up and I see I need to choose wisely what I think about.  God surely is what life is all about.

“God gave you a gift of 86, 400 seconds today.  Have you used one to say ‘Thank you’”? (William Ward )Lord, every single gift comes from You…“Lift my gaze to see life from Your perspective. Help me to understand-and treasure-every good thing You send…”(From James 1:7)   My running list of His One Thousand Gifts to me:  http://www.aholyexperience.com/

Just 100 to go for my first 1000 gifts recorded!

900. Phil 4:13 did me a world of good yesterday as I considered throughout the day  how the fact that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me  applies in ALL areas of my life http://jpoliver.com/wordpress/archives/1140
901. These are the questions and answers it boils down to for me:
“Will I trust God completely through whatever He allows in my life”?  Yes I will.
“Who is in charge and complete control around here?”  God, that’s Who.
“What am I supposed to do with thoughts of fear, doubt, worry as I see so many in the grips of cancer reoccurrences”?  Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and recognize the truth of a whole Bible full of verses teaching me how He wants me to live.  I am not going to die one day before God lovingly brings me Home to Heaven and what a great day that’ll be!
903 .  Have you surrendered to despair because of your past or the inevitable situations in your life? Stop it! The greatest days of your life are before you. The past is over. Stop living life looking in the rear view mirror. Look forward. Press on! The best is yet to be, God never consults your past to determine your future.”–Hagee
904.   From the excellent book “When God and Cancer Meet” by Lynn Eib:
“I hate the term ‘cancer victim’ .  It somehow implies cancer is the victor.  It wins; we lose… While we can do little to choose whether we get cancer, we can do a lot to choose whether we are it’s victims.  I don’t just mean whether we live or die.  I mean how cancer affects us in the deepest parts of who we are.  I believe cancer cannot conquer our spirit unless we choose to become victims .”
905. Psalm 57:10  “For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.”
Gratefully His,

More “Cancer Fightin’ Words” to Add to my Running List

More “Cancer Fightin’ Words” to Add to my Running List:

I am very happy to be alive and thriving and every day I am on this earth is a gift from God.  Heaven is an even bigger free gift waiting for me at the perfect time of His choosing.  My Father has numbered my days and I will joyfully see Him face to face when HE says so.

Because of all God has promised in His Word, I have a positive, hopeful outlook on life and a positive expectancy for each day I am blessed with.  What would you like me to do today, Lord?  I want to fit into YOUR plans.  Please guide and direct me and help me not to waste the precious resource of time.

My constitution is strong with an amazing resiliency for overcoming sickness and recuperating from cancer and the treatments of cancer that I’ve done to heal.

I am grateful for all the tools that God has used and continues to use to make me strong and well.

I have all the reserves I need to heal from the inside out and without complications.

I have a great big resolve to proactively take excellent care of my body and my body is responding well to my healthy lifestyle by getting stronger every day.

I appreciate my many blessings more than ever.

The Herceptin I took every 21 days for a year was like a laser beam, specifically elimnating Her2 positive cells with precision.

I have been blessed with an awesome immune system that is a powerful source of defending my good health.

I am firmly resolved to do whatever it takes to get healthy, be healthy, and stay healthy the rest of my life.  It’s fun and fulfilling to take measures that build my body and spirit up.

I have healthy, positive ways of dealing with stress and overcoming challenges that come my way for a season.

I make no space in my thought life for negativity: I only have room for positivity.  I reject emotions and attitudes that do not line up with what God says in the Bible about how I should be thinking, my thoughts will dwell on His “whatsoevers”.  God is in full control of my life and will give me all the help and grace I need for all He allows.

Perseverance and tenacity are my middle names (besides Victoria :).

I have a strong will to live life fully as my Saviour intends.

I can leave my future in God’s Lap and rest in Him, full of joy and peace.

My spirit soars with the freedom I have in Christ.  My thoughts hum with satisfaction and contentment because God makes no mistakes and is wise in what He allows in my life–He has a purpose and a plan for everything and He could not love me more than He already does.  When I lack wisdom, I will ask HIM for wisdom.

Emotions and circumstances do not rule my life: God does.

“God gave you a gift of 86, 400 seconds today.  Have you used one to say ‘Thank you’”? (William Ward )Lord, every single gift comes from You…“Lift my gaze to see life from Your perspective. 893.Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit
894. Quote from “Jesus Calling” :“When you face unexpected demands, there is no need to panic. Remember that I am with you. Talk with Me, and listen while I talk you through each challenging situation.  I am not a careless God. When I allow difficulties to come into your life, I equip you fully to handle them. Relax in My Presence, trusting in My Strength.
2 Corinthians 12:9
“Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness”
895.”The flower that blooms with adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.”
896.”Faith is God’s invitation to make the impossible possible.  He is glorified when we are enabled to do what we are unable to do”  (unknown author)

897.”In the midst of an ever-changing world, the good news is that the life of faith is anchored by the power, provisions and the promises of God.  Circumstances may change, but the future is as sure as the character of God himself.  No matter what happens, those who trust in God hope in his word” (Unknown author)

898. Psalm 119:114

“You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope”

899. This song is running through my mind today:

“In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; this Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand.”

“Living Like Someone Left the Gate Open”

Edit: Please note that after posting this “Do not fear” quote below, in my search to find them and look them up  myself,  I was disappointed to find out that, while a nice thought that there are 365 verses saying “do not fear”, somebody made that number up and it is not correct.  I’m sorry I did not check it out before posting that quote.  However: what is true is that there are lots and lots of Bible verses telling us not to fear and what God is like,, PLENTY in His Word to encourage us every day!—Paula 9/12/12

I was visiting my son last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper.

‘This is the 21st century,’ he said. ‘I don’t waste money on newspapers. Here, you can borrow my iPad.’

I can tell you this; that ole’ fly never knew what hit him.”

“God gave you a gift of 86, 400 seconds today.  Have you used one to say ‘Thank you’”? (William Ward )Lord, every single gift comes from You…“Lift my gaze to see life from Your perspective. 889. “Think about it.
If God knows everything, the cancer diagnosis did not surprise Him.
If God sees everything, He saw the bad news coming.
If God has power over everything, He could have stopped it.
But He didn’t.There are so many hidden meanings in those words. He could have, but He didn’t. What that says to me is that He is in control, in every aspect of the universe, He is in control.

He is in control.
Errant cancer cells are not.
Toxic medicine is not.
White- Coated doctors are not.
Herbs and vitamins are not.
You are not.
I am not.”

Quote from “When God and Cancer Meet” by Lynn Eib

890. James 4:8  “I will come near to God and He will come near to me.”

“I will…

TRUST- in HIS timing

RELY- on HIS promises

WAIT- for HIS answers

BELIEVE- in HIS miracles

REJOICE- in HIS goodness

RELAX- in HIS presence”

(On a card given to me at the ladies retreat at Cappernium Inn http://capernaumministries.com/gallery/ this summer.  It was a precious time with the Lord and sisters in Christ)

891.”You keep track of all my sorrows.  You have collected all my tears in your bottle.  You have recorded each one in Your book.” Psalm 56:8

Joni Eareckson Tada said, “Every tear you’ve cried will be redeemed.  God will give you indescribable glory for your grief, not with a general wave of the hand, but in a considered and specific way.  Each tear has been listed, each will be recompensed.  I’ve cried a few times over not having the use of my hands.  I think it’s ironic that on the day in Heaven when I finally get back the use of my hands so I can dry my own tears…I won’t have to: ‘He will wipe every tear from our eyes'” (Rev 21:4)

892. I love the word picture I have in my mind of the poster our friends Verona and Darrell (who are living in the realities of cancer) saw of a dog in the middle of a long jump.  It says, “Live like someone left the gate open”. I like that!  God truely has “left the gate open” to live fully with the freedom we have in Christ.

893.”If the Gospel is not the best news you have ever heard, then you have misunderstood the Gospel.”

Gratefully His,
