Phil 4:8-God’s Rubbish Removal Service For My Mind

“Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right.
Think about things that are pure and lovely,
And dwell on the fine, good things in others.
Think about all you can praise God for
And be glad about it.” Phil 4:8
“I call Phil 4:8 my ‘rubbish removal service.’  It’s the verse I use to dump the garbage from my mind and get rid of useless, rotting, noxious junk so I can replace it with things that are nourishing, fresh, and healthy.  A lot has been written on ‘positive thinking,’ but Paul scooped everybody 2000 years ago with Phil 4:8, which he wrote in prison, chained to a Roman guard, waiting to be executed.”
–Barbara Johnson

Lord, every single good gift comes from You…

(From James 1:7)   One Thousand Gifts
333. With God’s training I can use Phil 4:8 as my personal “rubbish removal service”–dumping all the garbage of my mind and exchanging it for whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, the things of virtue and excellence and worthy of praise. I will think on and weigh and take account of these things: I will fix my mind on them.
334. An all-day rain soaking my garden today and fun memories of splashing in puddles with my kids when they were younger.  Maybe we should do this again. 🙂
Some specific prayer requests I’d appreciate prayer for:
–On Monday Oct 10th my sister-in-law Kelley will be having a mastectomy for breast cancer.   May God work out all the details as only He can and give her grace and peace through it all.
— That same day is my last chemo.  Hooray to be finishing that chapter of my treatment! Please pray for His healing and strength for the long road still ahead of me and a resolution of the chemo damage.
Thanks for your prayers and encouragement!
Joyfully His,

  1. God has faithfully reminded me of you & your dear family many times during these last few days, Paula. I’m praying for you! You’re finishing these chemo treatments strong in the Lord. You encourage me. With Love, Because of Christ, Sharon

  2. We are with you in spirit, Paula….and praying that God will use this last chemo and following treatments to rid all traces of the enemy in your body. Mark and Sue just left us this morning after spending a day here in SC at Matthew’s soccer game in Clinton, about 30 miles away. I spoke with Kelley this AM and she is ready to proceed tomorrow at 12 noon ….with prayers from all of us that the LORD will be with her and her Drs. We love you and Jesus does beyond measure.

  3. I am continuing to pray for you and for this last protocol. Praying also for a fresh healing of your body of any long term issues. Love you girlfriend.

  4. Paula,
Prayed for you at church this morning. Will be praying for Kelly also. May the good Lord Jesus fill your heart with His love and blessing during this trial.

  5. Hooray! Another milestone is about to be behind you instead of in front of you. May the cancer cells feel well and truly poisoned and may the good cells breathe a sigh of relief and start concentrating on recovery. And may your heart be more and more centered on the One who loved you enough to die for you. May He strengthen you and fill you with all joy and peace in believing Him. Love, Nita
